    Overview

Gloucester Travel Clinic is a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre (YFVC), authorised by the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) to administer the Yellow Fever vaccine and issue the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) — commonly known as the "yellow card."

Yellow Fever is a serious viral haemorrhagic disease transmitted by infected Aedes mosquitoes in tropical regions of Africa and South America. The disease has a case fatality rate of up to 50% in severe cases, making vaccination one of the most important steps you can take before travelling to endemic areas.

We administer the Stamaril® vaccine, the only Yellow Fever vaccine licensed in the UK. A single dose provides lifelong protection for most travellers, as confirmed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2016.

    Who Needs Yellow Fever Vaccination?

Yellow Fever vaccination is recommended or required in the following situations:

    • Mandatory for entry: Many countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South America require proof of Yellow Fever vaccination for entry. Without a valid ICVP, you may be denied boarding or quarantined on arrival.
    • Transit requirements: Some countries require proof of vaccination if you're arriving from or transiting through an endemic country — even if you didn't leave the airport.
    • Travel to endemic regions: Even where not legally required, vaccination is strongly recommended if you're visiting areas where Yellow Fever transmission occurs.
    • Hajj and Umrah pilgrims: Saudi Arabia requires Yellow Fever vaccination for travellers arriving from endemic countries.

Our pharmacists will check the latest NaTHNaC country-specific requirements for your destination and advise whether vaccination is necessary.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is Yellow Fever vaccination mandatory for travel?+
It depends on your destination. Many countries in Africa and South America require proof of Yellow Fever vaccination for entry. Some countries also require it if you're transiting through an endemic area. Our pharmacists will check the latest requirements for your specific itinerary.
How long does Yellow Fever vaccination last?+
Since 2016, the WHO has confirmed that a single dose of Yellow Fever vaccine provides lifelong protection. The International Certificate of Vaccination no longer has an expiry date. You do not need a booster.
Can I get Yellow Fever vaccination on the NHS?+
No. Yellow Fever vaccination is only available privately from registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres. It is not available from your GP. Our price of £75 includes the vaccine and the International Certificate of Vaccination.
How far in advance should I get vaccinated?+
You should receive the vaccine at least 10 days before entering a Yellow Fever endemic area, as this is when the certificate becomes valid. We recommend booking 6–8 weeks before travel to allow time for any other vaccines you may need.
What is the International Certificate of Vaccination (ICVP)?+
The ICVP, often called the 'yellow card,' is an official document proving you've been vaccinated against Yellow Fever. It's issued at the time of vaccination and may be checked at border control. We issue this certificate on-site at both our Gloucester pharmacy locations.
