Hajj & Umrah Health Advice

Mandatory vaccinations, recommended immunisations, and essential health guidance for pilgrims.

    Prepare for Your Pilgrimage

Hajj and Umrah attract millions of pilgrims from around the world to Saudi Arabia each year. The combination of extreme heat, large crowds, and physical exertion creates significant health risks. Proper preparation — including mandatory and recommended vaccinations — is essential to protect yourself and fellow pilgrims.

At Gloucester Travel Clinic, we provide a comprehensive Hajj and Umrah health service, including the mandatory Meningitis ACWY vaccination with International Certificate, flu vaccination, and a full pre-travel health assessment tailored to your needs.

    Health Tips for Pilgrims

1Stay hydrated — temperatures in Makkah and Madinah can exceed 45°C during Hajj season.
2Use an umbrella or parasol for shade during outdoor rituals.
3Wash hands frequently and carry hand sanitiser. Respiratory infections spread easily in crowded areas.
4Wear a face mask in crowded areas to reduce risk of respiratory illness.
5Take any regular medications with you in their original packaging, with a doctor's letter.
6Pack sunscreen (SPF 50+), rehydration sachets, paracetamol, and blister plasters.
7Walk in comfortable, well-fitting footwear to prevent foot injuries.
8If you have diabetes, heart disease, or respiratory conditions, consult your GP and our travel clinic before travelling.
